issue back pages LONDON-C. Richard Green, Jr., and Dr. John Jewell will become directors on the management board of British American Tobacco on January 1, 1999 and March 1, 1999 respectively. Dr. Bernd Schweitzer, regional director, Europe, will retire from the management board at the end of the year. Bernd joined BAT (Germany) in 1972 and held various marketing positions before becoming a director of BAT (Germany) in 1987. He was appointed chairman of the management boards of BAT (Germany) and BATIG in 1992 and became regional director, Europe in 1996. Paul Adams, who is currently regional director, Asia-Pacific, will succeed Bernd as regional director, Europe. In turn, Paul's role will be taken on by Tony Johnston, currently regional director, AMESCA, a region of over 80 countries in Africa, the Middle East, South and Central Asia. Dick Green is currently the area director for Southern Europe and will take over from Tony Johnston as regional director, AMESCA. Dick joined Brown & Williamson in 1993 as vice president, Latin America, Middle East and Africa, and subsequently spent four years in charge of Japan. Prior to that, he spent much of his career in Latin America with Texaco. In addition, at the end of the first quarter of 1999, Earl Kornhurst, operations director, will be returning to the USA as president of Brown & Williamson's U.S. domestic business, reporting to Nick Brookes, regional director, America-Pacific. John Jewell is currently senior vice president, operations, including research & development, at B&W and will succeed Earl, having joined B&W in 1972 as a research engineer. John has wide experience and has been a member of the global operations team for the past three years. |
