Hangzhou automates materials handling

HANGZHOU, CHINA-One of China's major manufacturers, the Hangzhou Cigarette Factory, ordered an automated material handling system from Digitron. To be operational by mid-1999, the system features a high-bay store for raw materials with a capacity for 2,000 pallets. The warehouse will be served by two stacker cranes, which will store raw materials incoming at the lower level and supply them on demand to the production lines at the upper level. Goods will be transported from the warehouse to the production machinery by a fleet of nine Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) operating under laser navigation.
