ISO for ITM

Poland
International Tobacco Machinery (ITM) Poland Sp. z o.o. has successfully completed the certification process for ISO 14001:2004, and recertification for ISO 9001:2008. With this, ITM Poland has anchored its quality and environmental responsibility towards itself, its customers and the local community.
ITM Poland received ISO 9001 certification in 2000. Since then, the company maintained its activity in accordance with international quality management practices, which was reflected in recertification. The ISO 14001 was granted to ITM last month.
“Since environmental management is no longer a distinct asset for companies, but a worldwide demand for doing business, ISO 14001:2004 certification benefits both the internal organization and our customers,” ITM Poland announced. “By having a systematic and integrated approach for environmental management in place, the Environmental Management System (EMS) is allowed to become part of the structure of the organization’s business. Since the EMS requests increasing competitiveness, and profits by means of potential process improvements and energy conservation, this involvement benefits both ITM and its customers”.
In January, 2010 the board of ITM Poland decided to implement the EMS within the company in order to achieve the ISO 14001 standard by the end of the year. Over the past year, ITM Poland has observed all its activities, services and physical resources in order to register all environmental aspects. Following the outcome, ITM has determined and implemented objective and measurable targets for a new environmental policy. And all staff is trained to perform in accordance with ITM Poland’s new Environmental Management System.

Tobacco & Public Health: Time to Move On?

By: Chris Crawley It will surprise some in the public health community, but originally the tobacco industry never intended to harm its customers with a new product: manufactured cigarettes. Why would it? It didn’t occur to the fledgling cigarette business that smoking cigarettes may be harmful. On the contrary when cigarettes were first produced they were considered a great idea. They were smaller, much more convenient and easier to carry than cigars. The packaging was novel. What wasn’t to like? They entirely suited a modern world on the move.
