According to a report by Associated Press, there are currently two test markets where an innovative tobacco product – smokeless tobacco lozenges – is being distributed and sold on a trial basis.
The new lozenges are manufactured by Reynolds American Inc. and are said to show great promise as they eliminate the two major complaints about smoking: the distinctive smell of tobacco and the harm allegedly caused by second-hand smoke. Another plus is the lack of cigarette butt litter.
As reported by the media in Charlotte, NC, one of the areas where the product is being tested, the lozenges are shaped like orbs, sticks or strips and dissolve on your tongue like regular lozenges or sugar candy.
The lozenges are said to contain anywhere from 0.5 to 3 mg of nicotine, which is a much smaller dose than cigarettes that may have up to 15 mg.
