Indonesia’s trade ministry is planning to issue a new regulation to control tobacco product imports, with one key point requiring importers to use some domestic tobacco.
According to Oke Nurwan, director general for international trade, “(Importers) must use domestic tobacco. If they fail to buy even a single leaf of tobacco, then they cannot import.” The government has prepared the new regulation following the decline in farmers’ selling price in the domestic market.
The regulation is expected to be completed this year.
