ZAMBIA
British American Tobacco ( BAT) has opened a US25 million cigarette manufacturing plant in the Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone (MFEZ).
Finance Minister, Bwalya Ng’andu, who presided over the opening, has called for more investment in the manufacturing sector, saying that the plant represents the kind of development the Zambian government is determined to have that enhances the inflow of foreign direct investment.
Ng’andu also said that the tobacco sector is currently estimated to support the livelihoods of about 500,000 farmers with a ready market.
