Hauni’s New Primary for Manufacturers
Entry level primary
GERMANY
With its new standardized entry-level Primary, Hauni has finally given smaller and medium-sized cigarette manufacturers the power to take control of their own tobacco preparation and processing – cost-efficiently and with a minimum of effort.
Many of these are companies which have traditionally focused exclusively on the secondary range. The complete package is particularly attractive. Hauni not only supplies a plant assembled from high-quality, tried and tested components but also supports its customers through consulting and processes optimization services based on its specialists’ outstanding know-how.
Initially, Hauni’s experts work hand-in-hand with the customer to determine whether this start-up concept, which processes stems and lamina together on one line, is economically viable.
“We look at aspects such as prices and duties for raw and cut tobacco,” said Andreas Angermair, senior project manager, Primary sales at Hauni. “We also identify the additional costs for energy, waste disposal and human resources that the customer could expect to incur by operating his own primary. This allows us to determine how quickly the plant will pay for itself.”
This Primary start-up concept is designed to meet the capacity requirements of customers who prepare and process their own tobacco for production of around two billion cigarettes per year in a single-shift operation and up to seven billion cigarettes in a three-shift operation. The combined line, which produces both stems and lamina, can process two to three tons of tobacco per hour and three to four blends. It offers a number of advantages and the footprint of 35 x 50 meters with a height of maximum 6.50 meters is very compact. The Primary has a high-quality standardized design and is relatively easy to operate. This makes it ideal for companies entering the primary market for the first time. Moreover, the price is extremely attractive.
Cigarette manufacturers, however, need not compromise on quality. The key tobacco conditioning, cutting, and drying components are leading process equipment solutions which incorporate outstanding technology. This entry-level Primary features TOBCON for conditioning, OMNISLICE for slicing and KT 2 for cutting as standard. Customers also have a choice of dryer: the classic KLS rotary dryer or alternatively the HDT 3E superheated steam dryer.
Hauni provides operative support during installation, commissioning of the components and actual running of the plant – starting with the creation of the tobacco blend. This is an important topic for newcomers to the Primary. For the first time, they have the opportunity to create their own product, determine the flavor of their own cigarettes, vary quality from low-cost to premium, and boost their brand image. Hauni subsidiary Borgwaldt Flavor – a specialist in blend development, tobacco processing and flavoring – offers valuable help in this area. Analytic Service Laboratory GmbH (ASL) assists customers in analyzing the tobacco and tobacco products to ensure that, for example, the chosen flavor is consistent. “Borgwaldt Flavor and ASL are excellent partners who communicate closely with customers and help them to improve their products,” explains Angermair.
Hauni’s integrated approach goes even further. Technical training courses for production staff qualify them in using the machinery. Further tailor-made products and services optimize business processes with the aim of improving primary efficiency and maximizing potential savings. For example, Hauni components can generate remarkable tobacco savings without affecting flavor in any way. The complete entry-level Primary package offers unbeatable value for money. And if a manufacturer acquires a taste for the Primary and wants to expand production, the plant can be converted with minimal technical changes into a single line which processes only lamina.
