Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Co. is closing down its facilities in the city where it was founded 36 years ago.
Although the company was acquired by Reynolds American Inc. of Winston-Salem, NC, decades ago, the business had maintained offices in Santa Fe. This, however, will come to an end this summer when the fewer than 20 people who still work out of a brown-stucco building on the southern edge of Santa Fe must either move to North Carolina or leave the company, a spokesman said.
The June 30 shuttering of the Santa Fe offices, whose remaining functions will be relocated to Oxford, NC, where the bulk of Santa Fe Natural’s manufacturing and distribution has been centered since 1996, will close a chapter on one of the more successful businesses started in Santa Fe.
