Farmers have sold 167.14 million kg of tobacco by Day 49 of the selling season, 20% shy of a current season target of 200 million kg.
This year’s figure is 19.9% higher than the same time last year when a total of 139.40 million kg had been sold.
Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) figures released early June 2018 showed that since the selling season began in March, farmers had sold tobacco worth US$483.70 million at this year’s auctions and to official tobacco buyers. The average selling price has also gone up by 0.72%, compared to last year.
