Latest figures from the State Revenue Committee (SRC) show that the customs value of cigarettes exported by Armenia in 2018 grew by 9.3% from the previous year to $266.2 million (27 billion pieces of cigarettes.)
The bulk of cigarettes were exported to Arab countries, in particular, to Iraq, UAE, and Syria. Specifically, 14.5 billion cigarettes, worth US$146.6 million, were exported to Iraq against 10.8 billion cigarettes (US$112.3 million) in 2017, or almost 54% of the total export of cigarettes. Cigarette exports to the UAE decreased by 37% to 3.5 billion pieces (US$34 million), while exports to Syria increased by 9.1% to 6.6 billion pieces (US$55.6 million).
Exports of Armenian cigarettes to Russia grew to 900.6 million pieces (US$9.8 million), up from 337.4 million cigarettes in 2017 (US$4.1 million).
Figures from the National Statistics Committee revealed that production of cigarettes in 2018 increased by 11% to 31.6 billion pieces and about 85% of cigarettes produced in the country were exported to other countries.
